This woman is wondering is abortion or adoption right for me?

You have verified you are pregnant. You have identified all of your pregnancy options, and now you need to evaluate the final two: abortion and adoption. Either decision will impact your life in various ways. Neither option will erase your past.

You’re the only one who can make this decision. At Sage Women’s Center, our goal is to offer resources, education, and encouragement as you contemplate your choices.

Considering Abortion as an Option:

When weighing your options, it is important to organize your thoughts clearly and effectively. This process involves time and effort, but you are able to make decisions with more confidence if the preparation is adequate.

Below is a list of questions you can ask yourself. We recommend setting aside up to one hour of time to answer them. During this hour, use a pen and paper to thoroughly write your responses to these questions. The process of writing will help your brain to focus and think with clarity.

Questions to Ask Yourself Before Abortion:

  • Why would I choose abortion over adoption?
  • Looking back on my life, do I want abortion to be a part of my story?
  • What are the risks of an abortion procedure, and am I okay with taking them?
  • How much will abortion cost me?
  • How will my life change after?

As you think about these questions, envision your life after abortion. Is this what you want? Will you feel like you made the right decision?

Considering Adoption as an Option:

We recommend asking and answering the same questions about adoption as you did for abortion. Try to be as honest as possible when answering all of the questions so you can gain clarity.

Questions to Ask Yourself Before Adoption:

  • Why would I choose adoption over abortion?
  • Looking back on my life, do I want adoption to be a part of my story?
  • What are the risks of carrying a pregnancy to term, and am I okay with taking them?
  • How do I feel about someone else raising my child?
  • Do I want to have a relationship with my child?
  • Would I prefer an open or closed adoption?
  • How much will adoption cost me?
  • How will my life change after?

Now, picture your life after adoption. As you ask yourself these questions one by one: How do you feel about adoption? Is this what you want? Will you feel like you made the right decision?
